As I prepare for another holiday of gathering with loved ones. I am particularly offering up the challenges of gathering (we all have them: the increased noise, lack of privacy, having to wait your turn for the restroom…)
Miracle of Life – Weeks 7 to 10
Though still developing, the preborn baby’s heart has been beating for 2 weeks now. A first ultrasound can be done between 6 to 8 weeks of pregnancy and at that time the baby’s heartbeat can be heard and a due date can be set.

St. John was born in 1593 in Normandy, France. After graduating from college he joined the Jesuits in hopes of becoming a brother. On February 19, 1622, he was instead ordained a priest.

Not As Man Sees Does God See
For those unfamiliar with the stories of King David, David was actually the second king of Israel. Saul was anointed by Samuel as the first king, but Saul fell out of favor with God and was rejected by God as king. That brings us to our reading wherein Samuel is commanded by God to anoint David as Saul’s successor.

Giving in to our impulses is not often seen as part of the spiritual walk, especially when they are from our weak human nature.
A Conversation with Jesus
We find Jesus outside the normal trade routes of the time in John’s Gospel, and he is in a place that many Jewish travelers would generally avoid because it was the area inhabited by the Samaritans. Yes, there is fear present due to bigotry and hatred.
