Sacred Music at Sacred Heart Catholic Church

Disciples interested in sharing their musical gifts to glorify God and help lead the assembly to worship the Lord in song are highly encouraged to participate. St. Hildegard Sunday Choir

The St. Hildegard Sunday Choir sings Gregorian Chant, Sacred Polyphony and traditional hymnody from all periods of the Church’s rich patrimony. We use the organ as accompaniment but also sing much of our repertoire unaccompanied. Participation in the choir requires singers to match pitch with the ability to blend vocally with other voices. All members are expected to attend a weekly rehearsal and a warm-up before Mass. The ability to read music is not required, however we encourage our singers who do not read music to make an effort to learn. The choir is open to high-school aged youth to adults.

St. Cecilia Vigil Choir

The St. Cecilia choir sing hymns and chants for the Saturday 5pm mass and is accompanied by organ. Participation in the choir requires singers to match pitch with the ability to blend vocally with other voices. All members are expected to come to a warm-up the day of. The ability to read music is a plus, but not a necessity.

Contemporary Ensemble

The Contemporary Ensemble sings a blend of post Vatican II hymns/songs to modern Praise and Worship music accompanied by the piano and other instruments. Participation in the choir requires singers to match pitch with the ability to blend vocally with other voices. We meet for rehearsal before the Mass. The ability to read music is a plus for vocalists, but not a necessity. However, instrumentalists are required to read lead sheets. The ensemble is open to teens and older.

Cantors

Cantors are utilized primarily for Liturgies when there is no choir and are regularly scheduled for the Sunday 7:30 am Mass as well as for other liturgies throughout the year including weddings and funerals. Qualifications include basic music reading and musicianship skills. Cantors are expected to arrive well rehearsed. Auditions are required.

Ascend Worship

Our Ascend Worship team consists of a select group of musicians leading the assembly in praise and worship of our Lord during Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament at our quarterly Ascend Nights. Accompanied by piano, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar, strings, and percussion. Participation requires singers to match pitch with the ability to blend vocally with other voices. All members are expected to attend rehearsals and a warm-up before the service. The ability to read music is a plus for vocalists, but not a necessity. However, instrumentalists are required to read lead sheets. Auditions are required.

Laudate Pueri Children's Choir

Students in grades 5 through 10

Saturdays 9:00 am to 10:00 am in the church rehearsal room.

Every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month beginning July 25th.

Luz y Alegria

This Spanish folk ensemble is accompanied by piano, guitar, bass, and percussion. Participation in the choir requires singers to match pitch with the ability to blend vocally with other voices. All members are expected to attend a weekly rehearsal and a warm-up before their assigned Mass. The ability to read music is a plus, but not a necessity.

Amigo Cristo

This choir uses a variety of both Spanish folk and modern music accompanied by flute, guitar, and piano. Participation in the choir requires singers to match pitch with the ability to blend vocally with other voices. All members are expected to attend a weekly rehearsal and a warm-up before their assigned Mass. The ability to read music is a plus, but not a necessity.

Estudiantina Asuncion

This Estudiantina sings a variety of Spanish folk and the occasional modern songs with the accompaniment of mandolins, guitars, percussion, bass, and piano. Participation in the choir requires singers to match pitch with the ability to blend vocally with other voices. All members are expected to attend a weekly rehearsal and a warm-up before their assigned Mass. The ability to read music is a plus, but not a necessity.
