Music Ministry

“…and so with all the choirs of angels in heaven, we join in their unending hymn of praise.”

The principal choir at Sacred Heart is the assembly that gathers each week to celebrate the Eucharist. Led by priests, deacons, lectors, and supported by Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, Lectors, Ushers, Altar Servers and Musicians, this assembled “ choir” sings its praise. Together, the assembly lifts up their hearts to the Lord in sung prayer. The music ministry leads and supports the assembly’s sung prayer with a variety of musical styles, instrumentations and choral fullness.

Commitment
All choirs rehearse weekly and each arrives one hour prior to scheduled Mass time for warm-up and setup. In addition to weekly commitments, all choirs participate in occasional special parish services, either jointly or individually, Attendance at all rehearsals is the optimum, but at the minimum, a 75% attendance level is expected of all singers and musicians in all choirs.  All choirs participate in the annual Christmas Concert, and in Holy week and Triduum liturgies. At times, Sacred Heart parish offers bilingual celebrations, in which both English and Spanish choirs participate.

Repertoire
All choirs sing all styles of music from our rich tradition of Gregorian chant to today’s contemporary liturgical music from a wide variety of cultures.
