WHAT IS IT?
The Legion of Mary is the largest apostolic organization of lay people in the Catholic Church, with over 10 million members in almost every country of the world. It has been active in the United States since 1931, has been approved by the last 6 Popes, and was endorsed by the Second Vatican Council. The object of the Legion of Mary is the glory of God through the holiness of its members…Legion of Mary Handbook, Chapter 1, #2.
WHAT DOES IT DO?
Members strive to grow in holiness through a balanced program of prayer, study, and apostolic work. As our theme this year in the Ministry Fair “Let us love not in speech but in deeds and truth”. Some of the works or deeds of love are visitation of families of the newly baptized, door-to-door visitation, prison ministry, visitation of the sick or aged, Door to Door, religious education, Pilgrim Virgin Statue rotations, Enthronement of the Sacred Heart in the homes and meeting the other spiritual needs of the parish community. Legionaries are under the guidance of their pastor. The Legion is, in essence, an extension of the heart and hands of the priest to show love not in our speech but in deeds and truth to our fellow Parish members.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Members meet once a week for prayer, planning and discussion in a family setting. Then they go out and do the deeds that our Pastor has given them to do.
WHO CAN BELONG?
The Legion of Mary is open to all Catholics:

- Are moved by the desire to participate in the Church’s apostolate through membership in the Legion.
